As a child, I wanted to be just like Indiana Jones. He had an air of adventure and mystery that was simply irresistible. His adventures around the world were thrilling, and I wanted nothing more than to follow in his footsteps for my own life-changing journeys. Little did I know that this dream would come true one day, as Indy has been a major influence on my travel style for years now. Let’s explore how the intrepid archaeologist has inspired me over the years.
Fearless Exploration: As any fan of the franchise knows, Indy isn’t afraid to take risks and get a few scrapes while exploring new places; diving off cliffs without hesitation and fighting off bad guys with little more than a bullwhip and his wits. This fearlessness isn’t necessarily something I’d suggest emulating—but it’s certainly inspiring! Whenever I travel, I try to stay alert, trust my instincts and take calculated risks when necessary. After all, you never know what amazing things you might find when you’re willing to step out of your comfort zone.
Not only does Indy traverse far-flung corners of the globe in search of hidden artifacts; but he also takes time to learn about different cultures too. Whether it’s learning about ancient civilizations or picking up new languages along the way—Indy is always eager to learn more about each place he visits. This has been very inspiring for me as well; whenever I go somewhere new, I make sure to do some research on its history before arriving so that I can truly understand the culture and customs of my destination better once I get there.
One thing that stands out about Indiana Jones is that he finds adventure everywhere—right from his own backyard all the way around the world. Instead of waiting for grand adventures in exotic locales, Indy just grabs his hat and jumps right into whatever unique experiences life throws at him—big or small. This has been helpful for me when planning trips because instead of waiting until I can afford a crazy trip overseas (which can take ages to save for) or having no idea where my next journey will be; if something interesting comes up close by then why not seize it? It doesn’t have to be big or expensive; even small adventures can make great memories.
Growing up, I dreamt constantly of the opening scene from Raiders, where he navigates his way through the temple, and is met with several challenges, including dart traps and giant boulder chases. For years, the ride at Disneyland was my favourite place to be. It felt like I was Indy. It felt so real. The adrenaline is pumping as you cross a rickety old bridge and narrowly avoid the only potential nemesis that could bring our beloved Fedora Man to his knees: a giant cobra.
I wanted to explore forbidden temples, bring a gun to a knife fight, and defeat the Nazis.
Indiana Jones has been an incredible source of inspiration for me over the years—even though most people wouldn’t consider his antics “wise” or “safe” travel advice. But despite his reckless behaviour (which I don’t recommend), there are still valuable lessons we can take away from our favourite adventurer—like being fearless in exploration, learning about different cultures, and appreciating adventure wherever we find it. So grab your whip and let’s hit the road, baby—a real-life adventure awaits us!
