“The first song I wrote was about my friend and how she didn’t see herself as beautiful. So, I wrote a song about how beautiful she truly is. ”
— CHAPPELL ROAN
Em Koopman: What’s your motto or some advice you live by?
Chappell Roan: Do your best forget the rest.
Em: How do you hope your songs affect others?
Chappell: That they feel the same emotion expressed through my lyrics.
Em: What has been your favourite experience as a singer?
Chappell: Connecting completely with the audience, actually making eye contact with people in the audience.
Em: What was the first song you wrote, and what was it about?
Chappell: The first song I wrote was about my friend and how she didn’t see herself as beautiful. So, I wrote a song about how beautiful she truly is.
Em: What would you call your first headlining tour — and who would be your opening act (dream big!)?
Chappell: The Sugar High Tour. I couldn’t really imagine myself opening for a someone! If I could open for anyone I would want to open for Lorde or Lana Del Rey.
Em: Do you have a go-to karaoke song?
Chappell: Make You Feel My Love (the Adele Version) or Desperado by The Eagles.
Em: What’s on your bucket list? Have you checked anything off yet?
Chappell: Definitely to perform the National Anthem at the Superbowl, Perform on the Grammy Stage, and host Saturday Night Live.
Em: If you were to give someone advice on how to start songwriting, what would it be?
Chappell: Write anything you feel. Think of the coolest words that really describe what you’re trying to express.
Em: You’ve only been singing for 3 years, but you’re better than a lot of the singers out there right now. How did you get where you are today?
Chappell: A lot of hard work goes a long way. I’ve been given a gift and try to share it as much as I can.
Em: What is in the future for you?
Chappell: Keep writing and performing as much as I can. I really hope one day I am on the radio so a large amount of people can hear my art and enjoy it.
